INFJ
Personality tests have always intrigued me. I love the Myers-Briggs one…it’s really accurate and interesting. My result is INFJ….which stands for Introverted iNtuition Feeling Judging.

Hello. The title of this post has been the state of my brain the last 4 weeks. I have been so busy, it’s almost unbearable. But I’m actually really happy :) My classes, especially my Ed classes, are tons of work and a lot of reading every day. And then of course I had to choose to be an English concentration, which means even more reading. Go me! But I am enjoying the work and my Ed....

A long awaited update for people that care about...
And if you don’t care, you may as well stop reading, because this will bore you.
I will first say it is so good to be back in Houghton. I just love being here. I am RAing on the same floor with some of the same girls and it’s going to be a fun year :) I finished my second day of classes today and I am so excited about them. Who would have thought that you actually would like the...

I will also mention that I wear this fancy magnetic name tag that says Houghton College, Miss Booth, Student Intern. So they all call me Miss Booth. But they don’t really pronounce the TH right, maybe because of their inner city accent or because they’re speaking quickly…but it comes out sounding rather like Miss BooF. Which is pretty funny, to me at least. And usually, they say...
Someday I will wear these to my wedding, because they are beautiful. Take a little look :)

Tomorrow is my last day at school. I would love to say that I’m wallowing in the depths of despair because I have become so attached to them that I can’t bear to leave…but that would be a lie. Sure, I love them. Yes, I’ve had a great time. I’ve definitely learned a lot. And of course I will miss them. But I’m ready to be home and it’s pretty tiring dealing...
Assiyah
is the sweetest little girl I’ve ever met. She lives in her own little world- she is always skipping, singing to herself, dancing- she is all sparkles, rainbows, smiles, twirling! And she tends to daydream…I don’t know what she is thinking about, but she clearly enjoys herself no matter what she is doing. She’s strangely generous…the first day, she PAYED me. With...
Prayer request
This is the older brother of a little boy in the class I’m observing (the troubled boy who throws stuff and crumples paper…as if he didn’t have enough to think about already…). Please pray for his family…they have a lot of other issues to deal with besides this. The boy who was hit is named Julius. He is 10 years old :(

Here’s a funny story for you. Once upon a time, there was a bake sale at the King Center. Being the supportive Teacher’s Assistant that I am, I thought I’d buy a little something. After I bought my dounut, I knew I stuffed my wallet back into my backpack. But when I was at the dorm, the wallet was nowhere to be found. After making a special trip back to the King Center and...

Here are some of the kids in Mr. Marshall’s first grade…he made them smoothies for a treat (unfortunately, the kids who acted up couldn’t have them, but the ones that did just loved the mustaches they got…)
From left to right is MyKel, Shaloin, Aniya, Lenear, and Amil. As you can see, the two on the left are troublemakers, hence no smoothie mustache…
They’re a...
Adventurous day...
We made the most of our only free Saturday in Buffalo :)
We walked around on Elmwood…a lovely street with lots cute shops :)
We went to this strange little music store…
And then ventured off to the Buffalo Zoo. Our favorites were the Capybaras…
The rocky mountain sheep…
The meerkats (does this one not look like Pippi?)
And then we went to Niagra Falls! We...

It’s grand.
It was another rough day at school…not too bad. The kids are sweethearts when they’re talking to you, they just act up when he’s teaching. I feel so bad for him! It’s May and they haven’t even learned to be quiet during lessons. It’s rough. I can only imagine what goes on at home. Today a little boy got so mad that he chucked a big chair...
King Center Charter School
Here is the first 1 page response paper I wrote for Mayterm. It’s probably the fastest way to give you my first impressions of the school, but I have many more thoughts and the experience changes every day. A little boy threw a chair across the room today, for instance. But here is the paper I wrote very quickly as I was exhausted after a rough first day. But I’m having fun and...
Buffalo thus far!
I have a few minutes at the rectory, so I thought I’d give a little history of the last 3 days :)
This is where I’m living with the lovely Hannah and Kelsey. They are great :)
We feel like we’re sleeping in a classroom because of the tile floors, green bullatin boards that look like chalk boards, and our closets that look like cubbies when the lights are off. It’s a...
still no internet...
garumph :( but we are doing great! We’re at Panera right now with Hannah (it’s her BIRTHDAY!!) and Kelsey. Today a woman came to speak about what to expect in inner city schools and that was very helpful. Tomorrow, I go to my school for the first time. It’s called the King Center Charter School and I’ve actually been there before because Houghton sends students to help with...

Buffalo!
Yes, we are here for Teaching In Urban America (TIUA, pronounced tee-ooh-ah) for the next 2ish weeks! It’s rather exciting. Buffalo is 100% different from Vermont and I am very excited to observe a completely different atmosphere and demographic than what I’m comfortable with. Dan and I are both RAing in the dorm at D’youville college, where we are “renting” 2 floors...
:(
I strongly dislike checking my residents out of their rooms. It stinks. Because they’re my friends. And I won’t see them for a long time :(

Just kidding.
This day just kept getting more ridiculous as it progressed.
One of my classes was cancelled, so I went to our friendly neighborhood Dollar General and picked up a few essential items for having the best last 2 weeks ever with my floor
Went canoeing. While there was a flash...

It’s Abby’s birthday today. I miss her and she is wonderful. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEST FRIEND!!! You’re twice as old as you were when you were 10!

This week is Lambein Spirit Week! Yay! That means we do different things every day, because we can. So Monday was floor color day- my floor chose blue. The floor with the highest percentage of girls in their picture wins! And….because my floor is the best floor in the world…I had 100% attendance! You don’t understand. That NEVER EVER EVER EVER happens in residence life. Okay, one...

This is one of my favorite movies ever.
Everyone needs to watch this. Incredible acting. Perfect.
“A mentally retarded man fights for custody of his 7-year-old daughter, and in the process teaches his cold-hearted lawyer the value of love and family.”
Trailer :)
Just what I needed on this rainy gray day :)
I Love Lucy
Yesterday, 4 girls and I took a trip to Jamestown (1.5 hours from Houghton) to visit the birthplace of Lucille Ball- there’s an awesome museum there dedicated to her and her husband, Desi. It was AMAZING. Unfortunately, you couldn’t take pictures inside, but they had a bunch of their outfits, sets, props, and stories from their lives. And a wicked sweet gift shop. We went for...
APRIL?!
It’s been a while since I’ve put anything new and exciting up here, so I’ll try to my best right now to catch up :) And I can’t believe it’s APRIL. When did that happen and where did March go? This morning it was snowing. In April. Grr. Anyways…on to news and such.

Project
So a little while ago, I did a project in my Educating Exceptional Learners class about Assistive Technology (anything that helps you learn and live- from a pencil grip to a feeding tube). We could choose to do anything we wanted, so I wrote and illustrated a little children’s book about a boy with a learning disability who uses AT, and then I made a teacher’s manual for the book. The...
